The human variable

I’m thrilled to have you join me as I explore the world of behavioural finance. After 30 years as both a management consultant and family wealth advisor, I've seen the impact of human behaviour on personal, business and financial performance. Here, I will explore those behaviours and how they can either help or hurt our life experience. Although I am a financial professional, this blog isn't about numbers or charts. Here, I’ll share my own stories and experiences because I believe that personal connections are what make my work truly worthwhile.

In my planning practice, I account for the quantifiable elements easily - income, assets, debt, taxes, etc. These variables are important in determining the financial futures of clients and their families. But humans are wonderfully unique beings, and this uniqueness extends to our financial behaviors. While some economic theories may suggest a world of pure rationality, the reality is far more nuanced. We're guided by emotions, influenced by biases, and driven by the intricacies of our own experiences. So, alongside the quantifiable elements of a client’s life, we also must make considerations for something we might call the “human” variable. Our outcomes in life are profoundly influenced by our behaviors, opening up infinite pathways and possibilities.

Person looking at night sky

Whether you're a seasoned professional, a business owner, or simply someone eager to gain a deeper understanding of your own financial behaviours, I have something to offer. This blog won’t be a place for jargon or complex theories — just relatable and practical information that I hope you find thought provoking.

So, grab a cup of coffee, and let's dive in. I encourage you to share your thoughts, ask questions, and engage with our team. I’m here to listen, learn, and guide.

Cheers!
